IC Cards (Suica & Pasmo)
IC cards are rechargeable smart cards that make traveling around Japan incredibly convenient. The two most popular cards are Suica (from JR East) and Pasmo (from private railways), but they work interchangeably across Japan.
How to Get One
You can purchase IC cards at:
- Train station ticket machines
- Airport stations
- Convenience stores (in some areas)
A refundable deposit of ¥500 is required, which you can get back when you return the card.
